What is phenoxyethanol? Why is this ingredient used?

Phenoxyethanol is an oily, colorless liquid with a very slight rose scent. It is a naturally occurring substance that can be found in chicory and green tea. It is used as a preservative for its strong and effective anti-microbial properties.

Phenoxyethanol has been safely used since the 1950s as a preservative in cosmetics and personal care products which contain a water content that can cause spoilage very quickly. It is highly effective in preventing the growth of yeast, bacteria, and fungi.

These preservatives help extend the shelf life of the product. This is important for customers who may not use the product daily or who want to ensure that the product remains effective and safe until they finish the container. Phenoxyethanol has been tested and reviewed by experts around the world who have concluded that it is safe to use in the proper amounts (1% or less) in external applications. We have less than 1% in our moistursier.

What is cetearyl alcohol?

Despite its name, it is not the same type of alcohol that can be drying or irritating to the skin. Instead, it is a blend of cetyl and stearyl alcohols, both of which are derived from natural sources like coconut.

Cetearyl Alcohol is an emollient, which means it helps to soften and smooth the skin. It creates a protective barrier on the skin's surface, preventing moisture loss and keeping the skin hydrated.
