Winter Skincare Tips by Dr. Tim Clayton

Dear Parents and Ovée Subscribers,

As winter approaches, it’s important to keep your little ones' skin healthy and hydrated. Here are some essential tips for managing dry skin during the colder months:

Hydration is Key 🔑

With colds and viruses now spreading due to the cold weather, more of us are spending time indoors. Try to ensure your child drinks plenty of fluids. Dehydration can exacerbate dry skin, so encourage water intake throughout the day. Fevers and viruses can also induce flare-ups of inflammatory skin conditions such as atopic eczema. So do also consider asking your GP or dermatologist to review your child if their skin is flaring. It is important to switch off inflammation before the skin becomes infected, which requires additional treatments such as antibiotics.

Gentle Cleansing 🍃

I always recommend using a soap substitute  and where possible use mild, fragrance-free cleansers when bathing. Hot  baths can strip moisture, so opt for lukewarm water and limit bath time  to short duration to prevent the skin from becoming irritated and dry.

Moisturise Regularly 🧴

Apply a rich moisturiser immediately after bathing to lock in moisture. Obviously, I recommend Ovée Baby & Child Moisturising Cream specially formulated for delicate skin. Its nourishing ingredients provide lasting hydration and protection against dryness. We spent a lot of time getting the formula just right.

Dress Wisely 🧣

Choose soft, breathable fabrics for your child’s clothing. Avoid rough materials like wool directly against the skin, as they can irritate sensitive skin. Children can also be sensitised to wool alcohols which are present in a number of moisturisers.

Use a Humidifier 💧

Consider using a humidifier in your home to add moisture to the air, especially during the heating season. This can help prevent skin from drying out. If you cannot purchase a humidifier, then even a simple thing as putting a saucer of water on top of a radiator (out of your child’s reach!) may help hydrate the atmosphere of your child’s bedroom.

Sun Protection ☀️

Even in winter, UV rays can affect your child’s skin. Use a broad-spectrum sunscreen on exposed areas if you’re spending time outdoors.

Monitor Skin Conditions 🕵🏻‍♂️

Keep an eye on any persistent dryness, redness, or irritation. If issues persist, consult your dermatologist for advice tailored to your child’s needs.

By following these tips, you can help keep your child's skin soft and healthy throughout winter. For a reliable and effective moisturiser, don’t forget to try Ovée Baby & Child Moisturising Cream — your partner in maintaining your child's skin health.

Stay warm and hydrated and have a safe festive season
